Star Alliance – The way the Earth connects

The Star Alliance carriers are the world's first and largest global airline partnership, offering convenience, comfort and flexibility of travel to almost anywhere on Earth.

Star Alliance benefits

The Star Alliance network is a unique global family now totalling 26 major carriers – Thai Airways International, Adria Airways (Slovenia), Air Canada, Air China, Air New Zealand, Air Nippon (ANA), Asiana, Austrian, Blue 1 (Finland), bmi, Brussels Airlines, Continental Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Egyptair, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS), Singapore Airlines, South African Airways, Spanair, SWISS, TAM Airlines (Brazil) (effective 13 May 2010), TAP Portugal, Turkish Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways. Star Alliance carriers operate a total of 19,500 daily flights to 1,071 airports in more than 171 countries, carry in excess of 500 million passengers on 3,332 aircraft.  Air India and Aegean Airlines (Greece) have been announced as new members, currently undergoing the stringent approval process to join the Alliance.

All of this means unprecedented benefits for the Star Alliance customers, allowing them to:

  • Call your "carrier of choice" within the group to book (or change) flights to anywhere any partner flies
  • Check-in once only to the next destination, no matter on how many partner airlines you travel on
  • Enjoy "seamless" and efficient transfers
  • Receive relevant frequent flyer credits on all partner airlines
  • Utilise all partners' lounge facilities where appropriate
  • Benefit from special Star Alliance round the world fares including a reduced Special Economy Round the World Fare for travellers in Economy Class
  • Use Star Alliance Upgrade Awards to redeem miles or points from their Frequent Flyer Programme account to upgrade by one class either from Economy Class to Business Class or from Business Class to First Class on these participating carriers: Air China, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, Continental Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Swiss, TAP Portugal, THAI, Turkish Airlines and United Airlines. Upgrades are one-way, one sector travel and are not available on all flights.
